Irishman Drill Program Commences & Intersects Sullivan Horizon
Vancouver, British Columbia CANADA, October 30, 2008 /FSC/ - Sedex Mining Corp. (TSX - VX: SDN), is pleased to announce that it has been informed by its joint venture partner, Klondike Gold Corp., that a contract has been made to resume drilling on its 2007 Irishman hole in southeastern British Columbia. Black Hawk Drilling, based in Smithers, B.C. is extending the Irishman hole an estimated 200 meters to the projected depth of the Sullivan horizon and drilling is progressing well.
This morning the drill penetrated the upper part of the prospective Sullivan horizon. Examination of the drill core by Doug Anderson (P.Geo.) of the upper few tens of meters of the horizon showed that it contained visible sphalerite (zinc sulphide) and considerable disseminated pyrrhotite (iron sulphide) in massive, altered argillite, characteristic of distal fringes of sedex-type mineralization. The Sullivan horizon in the Irishman hole is exhibiting many characteristics of exhalite mineralization in a basin setting, including disseminated and vaguely laminated Zn and Fe sulphides, galena (lead sulphide) in small veinlets, variable alteration, thickened stratigraphy and fragmental units.
Drilling will continue through the Sullivan horizon, with the hope of intersecting more massive or laminated sulphide sections. Furthermore, comparison of the Sullivan horizon here with that in a 2005 Klondike hole, approximately two km to the east, will help in vectoring towards the source of exhalite mineralization in the southern part of the Panda basin.
The 2007 Irishman hole was stopped short of target depth due to heavy winter snow conditions. Completion of this hole is a high priority in Klondike Gold's 2008 exploration program.
The Irishman target is in a north-trending structural basin, referred to as the Panda basin, which is similar to the basin that hosted the world class Sullivan lead-zinc-silver sedex deposit 40 km to the north. Six holes have been drilled to the depth of the Sullivan horizon in the Panda basin, and these have clearly defined the limits of the basin and shown that sulphide content is increasing towards the south, near the intersection of the basin axis with a northeast-trending Proterozoic-age fault.
